Dirty Dozen

Some awards aren’t a welcome treat. Like when apples topped the “Dirty Dozen” list of 2011 meaning they are the most chemically contaminated produce according to the Environmental Working Group. Time to cue the dynamic duo of the Fruit and Veggie Scrub Cloth and the Fresh Wash Spray!

The Fruit and Veggie Scrub Cloth removes yuck from firmer fruits and veggies. The Fresh Wash can be used for any produce, but it’s especially perfect for delicate items like berries or mushrooms. You just add a few squirts to a bowl of water and let the produce soak for about 10 minutes or so. Then rinse and enjoy!

Here’s the complete list of “Dirty Dozen” produce:

1. Apples

2. Celery

3. Strawberries

4. Peaches

5. Spinach

6. Imported nectarines

7. Imported grapes

8. Sweet bell peppers

9. Potatoes

10. Domestic blueberries

11. Lettuce

12. Kale/collard greens

So be especially mindful with these — or consider buying those items organically. However, even organic produce should be cleaned before eating. It still went across many hands to get to you. Grow your own? The Fruit and Veggie Scrub Cloth has a more scratchy side for scrubbing the dirt right off of potatoes, carrots, etc.

Remember that eating fresh fruits and veggies is a totally smart move, so don’t be scared away by the term “dirty dozen.” It’s no reason to avoid those foods. Just be smart and give them a little Norwex clean before partaking in their goodness.

Healthy food heart from here.
